Saturday, March 31, 2007 That's easy. I'm like a pair of socks...neither right, nor left.
--Orson Welles. It is when we all play safe that we create a world of utmost insecurity.
--Dag Hammarskjold My hard working Hollywood friends just forwarded me this article explaining that Starbucks never denied coffee to the Marines. Okay, that was good to hear. Now, maybe Starbucks will really take the lead an consider a global coffee break. They have the money and power to do it.
WHEN POLITICS GET IN A WAY OF A GOOD CUP OF JOE This was just sent to me from my hardworking friends in Roswell, New Mexico. It really rubbed me the wrong way. Everyone deserves a good cup of Joe, including those the put their lives on the line because they are ordered to. If I were Starbucks I would have used this as an opportunity to sponsor a global coffee break for all involved. Starbucks might have actually done some real good in the world, but they dropped the ball, big time.
NO COFFEE FOR THE MARINES Their coffee is tasting more and more bitter..... STARBUCKS DENIES COFFEE TO MARINES Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops heir brand of coffee. So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by buying any of their products! As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and I believe is right. If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more. This is what is missing in the youth today. This being able to dream and to change the world.'
--Bernardo Bertolucci We can't let the torch go out for our youth. My aim is to make PAH a viable DIGITAL EMPOWERMENT/GLOBAL COMMUNICATION platform where the CREATIVE PROCESS reigns supreme. It will be very hard. I will need CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP to help me with this. I will give my blood and time, but I will need bread as well. I thought this year would be easier, but it is proven to be harder so far...big companies are tightening up. If I have to put more emphasis on my Barnum and less on my Twain for the time being, so be it. I know how to walk that path. What matters is that I keep my eye on the ball and what it truly stands for. I'd rather die, than give up. ![]() APPLE PHOTO BOOTH FUN Apple's iTV As previously reported the merger between your internet content and your television hits a new stride as Apple releases iTV. The sleek little box allows you to wirelessly transmit your itunes content to your TV. From your home office or up to 6 computers around your house you can transmit your video, music, or photo content that is on your computer to the iTV console and then to your TV. In fashion with everything Apple the interface is very slick and very user friendly. It has some limitations however, you cannot stream video from the internet....yet. Apple is very secretive about future applications of the box, but for now it is a user friendly very "cool" device, that will have more complex applications in the future. These upgrades will be downloadable for your existing box. Unfortunately it does not replace any existing device such as your TiVo or DVD player, but how else are you going to get your trapped computer content onto your TV? iTV is $299 and has a 40 GB hard drive and is also Windows compatible. This is not the only device like this, but it definitely is the easiest to use and the best looking. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 Monday, March 19, 2007 ![]() APPLE PHOTO BOOTH FUN Antics update: Thanks to some research from Brad at Antics 3D I was able to pull in a google image of the Ducati locations. Once I had my locations in Antics I was able to scale my virtual world with in an inch of the actual size and precisely place trees and bushes, providing a realistic location. I have found that the most time consuming process is creating the sets in Antics. The character movement could also use some fine tuning as well. Getting the timing of the character interactions is somewhat clumsy and frustrating. Although the set construction takes a while to build the results are amazing, I recreated the street I live with pinpoint accuracy. With a perfect scale model of your set in place the magic of the program really takes off. With the ability to move the camera around, and set up multiple cameras, the director can get a sense of where the best angles are. While the characters and objects are quite basic, if you have a 3d program such as 3D Max, you can create realistic textures and apply them to your antics project. It is possible with just a couple of pro-sumer products to create a high quality animated story. Working with Windows for this project: Um........I don't recommend it. It was a bumpy day, but we got a lot of breathtaking shots on the hard drive. I HAD A GREAT TEAM BEHIND ME. i feel completely satisfied and excited to see all the shots cut together. We also tested the RED CAMERA on a couple of 2nd Unit shots. I can safely say that this 4K prosumer camera is going to completely revolutionize our industry. It's simply amazing. Thursday, March 08, 2007 Wednesday, March 07, 2007 ![]() She's not actually Italian, but aren't we all a little Italiano at heart? Sumer, its rise and fall, provides the historian with the most ancient example of the poignant irony inherent in man's fate. ...It was the competitive drive for superiority and preeminence, for victory, prestige, and glory, that provided the psychological motivation sparking the material and cultural advances for which the Sumerians are justifiably noted: large-scale irrigation, technological invention, monumental architecture, writing, education, and literature. Sad to say, this very passion for competition and success carried within it the seed of destruction and decay. ...Sumer became a "sick society" with deplorable failings and distressing shortcomings: it yearned for peace and was constantly at war; it professed such ideals as justice, equity, and compassion, but abounded in injustice, inequality, and oppression; materalistic and shortsighted, it unbalanced the ecology essential to its economy; it was afflicted by generation gap between parents and children, and between teachers and students. And so Sumer came to a cruel, tragic end, as one melancholy Sumerian bard bitterly laments:
Law and order ceased to exist, cities, houses, stalls, and sheepfolds were destroyed Rivers and canals flowed with bitter waters Fields and steppes grew nothing but weeds and "wailing plants." The mother cared not for her children, nor the father for his spouse, and nurse-maid chanted no lullabies at the crib. No one trod the highways and the roads The cities were ravaged and their people were killed by the mace or died of famine. Finally, over the land fell a calamity "undescribable and unknown to man." --Samuel Noah Kramer from INANNA Man, this is exactly what I struggle with inside myself every day. It's all about finding the balance. So, come on people, we have a lot of work to do...that undescribable and unknown calamity doesn't sound so great. It's all about tapping into the everybody boat. Reconnecting with the Human Spirit both inside and out. No more, No less. A Susan Church video of fellow Wild Woman Artist, Jimmie Benedict. Art is all around us.
