Soupy Sales' Brother in Flagstaff?

I actually worked with Soupy on my film Palmer's Pick-up: An American Roadshow Odyssey. Soupy, like Frank Gorshin, was purposely understated yet possessed that great old school showmanship combination of gentleness and wickedness that I so dearly admire. Think of the Wizard in "The Wizard of Oz." Currently, I'm travelling via car to New Mexico for the new year. I stopped in Flagstaff, AZ for dinner and cocktails. The man at the piano looked an awful lot like Soupy Sales. He had a great touch and performed one of the best interpretations of "Poor Butterfly" I have heard recently. He slipped out before I could ask him about Soupy. Actually, I wouldn't have asked him any way. I get sick of it when people always ask me if I am related to so and so...though I understand the temptation. I liked the idea of Soupy Sales' brother living in Flagstaff tickling the ivories, then hitting the bars all thru the cold, dark night. Suddenly, I seriously had the urge to disappear. Maybe getting a job flipping burgers at the Fosters Freeze/Dairy Queen in Holbrook, AZ or something. Obviously, I would make the best burger possible. Every once in awhile, a customer would drive up and ask the window clerk if the burger guy was related to so and so...they would just smile and say, "I highly doubt it, but he makes a great burger."

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

MISS NEW MEXICO

Ane Cristal Romero getting ready for her EARSXXI shoot.

The PlasterCITY crew hard at work.

One of the reasons why my team and I are capable of doing these important projects is because of Bloodhead. He will always be allowed on our stage to watch us work to build a better future for all. And I repeat, "FOR ALL."

My handsome, very talented cousin Robert Carmine with Miss New Mexico 2005. Power to the People, man!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NICOLAS PAINE!

It was actually yesterday, but that's okay. You're a great creative partner for me and a very valuable team player to all of our companies. When the goin' gets tough you stick it out. And guess what? It's going to get a hell of a lot tougher. I can feel it. So party down my friend, celebrate your birth like a madman. Because we're going in hard and fast next year...hard and fast.

SUNDAY WISDOM

I want to share a true story about a man I am very fond of. His music is very simple and clear, yet resonates somewhere deep inside. His name was Eden-Ahbez and he wrote the great song "Nature Boy". Eden lived under the Hollywood sign eating nuts and berries back in the 1940's. He walked around Hollywood in a long, thin robe. He was a hippy and beatnik before there were such things. Even the great Tom Waits ran into Eden hitchhiking and felt something from the man.

One day Eden was stopped by a street cop on Hollywood Blvd. The Cop said, "Hey, you can't walk around wearing that".
Eden replied, "I know...I know I'm weird on the outside, but do you see all these good people walking from store to store, driving in their cars from town to town, sitting on benches just waiting? They're all weird on the inside."

The Cop thought a moment, then said, "You know what, bub. You're right". And he let Eden go.

Check out his album, "Eden's Island". Let me know what you think.

TO FIRMLY PLOW FORWARD

I know what my mission is and I know how to do it. I am at the peak of my game. I am giving myself three years to pull off this big picture I have in my mind's eye...a picture that fuses education, healing, entertainment and digital technology. I will not let myself be distracted or derailed. I will put every ounce of my focus and energy into this mission. And, I am very confident that I will succeed.

A COUPLE OF TIRED CAMPAIGNING BOYS

After not sleeping for 72 hours, Nick and I spoke to the Committee of Santa Fe Counties about PAH. Then, we drove up to Las Vegas, New Mexico to have a meeting with Miss New Mexico. We're going to be creating a special HD piece for her and her youth suicide prevention mission. Both Elyse and myself are very happy to sponsor Miss Ana Romero.

The Paine of Coppola

It's down to Mr. Paine and CRC to wrap the BBVM screenwriting session up tonight. Mr. Paine and I got into it a little last night (50% fistacuffs). It happens when you're exhausted and drunk. We do respect each other's talents though and the storms pass quickly between us. We both miss the very talented Nick Johnson and obtuse Grubb Graebner at the writer's table. They were good comrades; however, we are use to being the last guys at the table.

OLD AGE

THE GATHERING OF QUILLS

Why does this picture of Maria Callas remind me of an angry version of my cousin Sofia Coppola? It must be the Greek and Italian thing. Imagine a black or mulatto big bad voodoo wrestling expert mama instead.

Nick Johnson, Grubb Graebner, Nicolas Paine and CRC are at this very moment packing our bags, trusty books, pens and pencils for PAH GOES LIVE. I called each of my comrades...the adrenaline and excitement is at the max--we are so chomping at the bit and ready to create. This is going to be quite a live reality webcam show. Mr. Slipery is ready with the food and bar. Luigi is ready with the continuous espresso w/VOV and cigars. New Mexico's TVI program has lined up the right, bright, brave students to be part of this creative maelstrom. EARSXXI has lined up an occult specialist to teach us about voodoo/santaria particularly about bringing death back to life and freezing time; two female kickboxer/wrestlers to demonstrate particular body slam and headlock moves for us; and, a soprano or tenor from the Santa Fe Opera to bless us with a live perfomance of a couple of arias from Giocomo Puccini's Turando. Please go to www.earsxxi.com to get the exact times for these special BIG BAD VOODOO MAMA research lessons. The screenplay will be created in 72 hours no matter what.

This just in...PAH is back from Easter Island. He will be calling his boys over the weekend for a pep talk.

I WILL NOT STOP AT WHAT HAS TO BE DONE, BUT INSIDE IS SOMEONE DEEPLY OVERWHELMED

... I KIND OF LIKE IT THAT WAY.

I have been studying how I may compare
This prison where I live unto the world;
And for because the world is populous,
And here is not a creature but myself,
I cannot do it. Yet I'll hammer it out.
My brain I'll prove the female to my soul,
My soul the father, and these two beget
A generation of still-breeding thoughts.
(5.5.1-8)

I know I am a hell of a lot better off than Dick III, yet the words above sometimes ring very true to me.

Just a Couple of Middle-Aged Boys on the Road to PAH part deux

CRC says...

For some reason, the audblog cut me off at the end. Nick Johnson, Nick Paine, CRC and Grub Graebner are extremely creative, headstrong writers...the process should get pretty intense especially without sleep. We will need to have an opera singer, two female masked Mexican wrestlers, a full bar and a pasta kitchen for inspiration. So stay tuned next weekend for PAH GOING LIVE!
