Wigwam Blues

Route 66. Gallup, New Mexico.

My gut was hurting in more ways than one.

The middle wigwam is where it all happened.

LARRY IS THE MAN

This is the place in Albuquerque for your bikes. I worked with Larry on the pilot. Not only did he dubb me the "gay Elvis" when I was dressed in over-the-top 70's garb he also chopped garlic when we were behind schedule. I went by his shop before heading out of town. He noticed some unsafe problems with the motorcycle trailer and fixed them up. His family of employees jumped right in as well. They told me how Larry messed up his teeth in some serious fighting and how he got them fixed by fixing a dentist's Harley. Apparently, Larry is somewhat of a legend in Albuquerque. Carol, a sweetheart of salesperson, heard I was coming and brought vegetables and fruit from her garden for me and told me that her husband made a great pear pie. I love New Mexico. It is indeed the Land of Enchantment.

COOKING IS LOVE

New Mexico is definitely the Land of Enchantment. It was wonderful to see real people from different walks of life (Cowboys, Navajos, Pueblos, Iroquois, Banditos, Black Berets, Vets, Transplanted Bay Area hippies, Poets, Truck Drivers, Young & Old) mixing together, sharing stories, eating and drinking. It was harmonious. While the rest of the world boos our country, I am filled with pride and hope. It was an honor to cook a symbolic dish for these people.

LIST OF INGREDIENTS

BIKERCHEF 351
LIST OF INGREDIENTS

PHILOSOPHY:

The show is about people, love of life, celebration of differences, beauty in man-made machines, Zen of the road, being in the moment.

Spontaneity is the key. Charles Ives once told us to get our ears out of the easy chair

It is about finding harmony in extremes, in differences, Yin & Yang. It is also about making whole discoveries out of separate halves. Macro/Micro relations. Internal/External relations.

Actions, Story points, and Sense of Time need not be literal, but must always be ORGANIC.

Humor is the spice of life.

Cooking is the greatest act of love one can do for his fellow man. We take that for granted.

Odd Bluetooth Sound

I received a barrage of ugly e-mail (some from blood) over the past week. While in Flagstaff, AZ, I went for a walk to get some fresh air and forgot I had my bluetooth accessory clipped on my ear. Suddenly, I heard the the most beautiful harmony. I'm pretty sure it was an augmented F major seventh chord. I didn't have my cell phone on me. I looked up and saw the radiant sky. Maybe I picked up a radio signal. I prefer to think it was my muse encouraging me on.

CURIOUS PHOTOS OF THE DAY

Our publicist dude Erik Bright taking Elyse's scooter for a ride. Apparently, it has a lot of zip. When we get to New Mexico were going to air-brush a hotrod screamin' baby eagle on the front and add some turbo pipes.

You can be hoisted up with your bike over 300 ft. to see hundreds of thousands of bikes below. I thought about doing this with the BikerCHEF steed, then thought it might be too cheesy. Actually, I'm just really scared of heights. But, if I was dared, I'd do it.

My POV just before the press conference.

STURGIS DAY 2

I had strange feelings of forboding most of the day. I couldn't wait to get to Sturgis for my press conference and get it over with. The winds were up. I road very hard, exceeding 100 mph, before I came to my senses and slowed down. I informed the local press as to why Ars Nova XXI gave Mr. Costner's Tatanka a substantial donation. We want to encourage education in the digital arena which is why we're funding the Ars Nova XXI Hi-Def Lab at the San Francisco Art Instiute. But, what does this have to do with Native Americans and their history? Technology without wisdom is extremely dangerous. It can totally dehumanize us. Native American Medicine is ancient wisdom. In its most simplicist form it's about harmony with the Great Mother. Only take what you need and she will take care of you. Not an easy concept for the white man and his big business corporations. I know many Native American's believe the Internet is the Great Global Communicator and can be used as a powerful tool. In a time when the world is so polarized, balkanized, synthetic and filled with greed, it's precisely this kind of simple, timeless wisdom that we need. Ars Nova XXI wants not only to be at the forefront of the digital arena, but help spread the word of Native American wisdom. We want to push the digital revolution with a love of life, harmony between all peoples and cultures, and a deep respect for the Great Mother.
